Trump hasn’t ruled out a draft for war with Iran — but is conscription constitutional?
The Trump administration has requested $200 billion in supplemental funding for military operations against Iran, creating divisions within the Republican Party. Some GOP members, including Rep. Lauren Boebert, are opposing the massive funding request despite their party controlling the government. President Trump has not ruled out implementing a military draft as the conflict continues longer than initially expected.
The $200 billion request is fiscally irresponsible and represents exactly the kind of unchecked military spending that increases the national debt. Republicans should prioritize fiscal discipline even during wartime, and leadership shouldn't assume automatic support for massive spending requests.
Supporting the president and military during active conflict should take priority over budget concerns. The funding is necessary to ensure American forces have adequate resources, and Republican opposition undermines national security objectives and presidential authority during wartime.
