‘Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat’ Review: Amazon’s Comedy-Reality-Hoax Hybrid Returns for a Sweeter, Blander Second Season
Amazon's breakout reality hoax show 'Jury Duty' has returned with a new format called 'Company Retreat.' Instead of jury duty, an unsuspecting person believes they're working a temp job at a hot sauce company while actors create absurd situations around them. The show maintains its core concept of one real person unknowingly starring in a comedy built around them.
The new format successfully captures the original's magic with an even more hilarious concept and thoroughly endearing participant. It proves the show can evolve beyond its initial premise while maintaining what made it special.
While still entertaining, the second iteration feels sweeter but blander than the original. The company retreat setting may lack some of the natural tension and stakes that made the jury duty premise so compelling.
