Iran threatens strikes on oil and gas targets after South Pars gas field hit
Iranian strikes hit Qatar's Ras Laffan complex, home to the world's largest liquefied natural gas facility, causing what Qatar describes as "extensive damage." Natural gas prices surged over 25% following reports of the attack. Qatar has declared Iranian embassy military and security attachés as persona non grata in response to the strikes.
The Iranian strikes constitute an unprovoked attack on critical civilian infrastructure that caused extensive damage to the Ras Laffan facility. Qatar has formally condemned the strikes and taken diplomatic action by expelling Iranian military and security personnel from their embassy.
The strikes were retaliation for attacks on Iran's South Pars natural gas field and represent legitimate defensive action. Iranian officials have threatened further strikes on oil and gas facilities across the Gulf region if attacks on Iranian infrastructure continue.
